It deeply hurts me to see my country going through so much pain. 💔 Thank God my family is safe, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope that each and every one of your families is safe as well. 🙏🏼

I know that today there are families torn apart, people still fighting to find and rescue their loved ones and their children from beneath the rubble, and families also searching for their pets. 💔🐾

That is why I ask all of us to come together, to be mindful and, above all, to show compassion and solidarity during this difficult time. Now more than ever, I want to do my part. Every contribution matters and can become a source of hope for someone in need. 🫶🏼✨

The Downtown West Orange Alliance would like to th

The Downtown West Orange Alliance would like to thank the West Orange Planning Board for approving the Leon Marketplace project, a new, independent grocery store that will be built on the former Walgreens & Americana Diner lots.

We are especially excited to welcome a project that was so thoughtfully and creatively designed. The architects brought a vision that is not only aesthetically dynamic but which also considered the building's relationship to Main Street, pedestrians, parking, and the surrounding commercial district.

The project also includes several sustainability elements, including EV charging stations, rain gardens, bike parking, and the opportunity to add solar panels. 🍃

But what is perhaps most exciting is that this project can serve as the kind of economic catalyst that will benefit the Downtown corridor. Research shows that grocery stores can function as an economic anchor by generating steady, seven-day-a-week foot traffic that attracts complementary businesses such as restaurants and services.

This is a project that our community needs and has been asking for. The NJEDA has designated this section of town as a 'Food Desert Community' and last year's Main Street American Transformation Strategy Survey of the West Orange community found that a grocery store was among the most requested businesses for the corridor. Grocery stores are also a terrific opportunity to create local jobs.

We truly appreciate that the Planning Board understood the positive economic impact that this project will bring to this portion of Main Street, with its consistent daily activity, as well as the opportunity to improve the physical appearance and pedestrian experience of the site. We are excited to see the marketplace come to life!
